Black Pedagogy - Stainless Steel Tumbler
The Summer after the murder of George Floyd by police office Derek Chauvin in May 2020, there was a rise in deaths of Black people at the hands of the police.
20 in 20 is an art installation project curated by Doc. The initial 20 in 20 project was commissioned by the Academic Senate for Community Colleges in California.
The ASCCC was Intrigued by Doc’s larger exhibit, Homage, which chronicled Black deaths by police from 2014 – 2019. After reading about the installation, the organization reached out with a request to use photo documentation from the exhibit.
Inspired by the moment, Doc created 20 in 20 and specifically highlighted 20 individuals who were killed in 2020. Photo documentation of this installation was featured during the ASCCC Fall Plenary as a form of digital advocacy supporting conversations rooted in antiracism, allyship, equity and inclusion among California Community College Faculty.
